“China’s Ethnic Minority Regional Autonomy Policy: Evolution and Trends”

On October 18, 2024, an international scientific and practical conference titled “China’s Ethnic Minority Regional Autonomy Policy: Evolution and Trends” was held by the East Asian Studies Institute named after R.B. Suleimenov, under the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The conference was held according to the calendar plan of the grant funding program of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, titled “The Implementation of the CPC’s Policy towards Ethnic Minorities in Xinjiang: History, Present, and Future.”

The conference was opened and chaired by Professor Duken Masimkhanuly, a Doctor of Philology and the Director of the R.B. Suleimenov East Asian Studies Institute. D. Masimkhanuly delivered a special congratulatory letter from the leadership of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, expressing their best wishes for the successful conduct of the conference.

The conference featured notable scholars in Sinology, Oriental Studies, and History from Kazakhstan and abroad, as well as doctoral and master’s students. Additionally, Ms. Jiang Wei, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Almaty, participated and, wishing success for the conference, elaborated on the political, social, economic, and cultural-spiritual conditions in China’s current autonomous regions during her presentation.

Furthermore, prominent Sinologists and historians from countries such as India, Japan, China, Mongolia, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan participated in the conference both online and offline, presenting highly relevant and important reports related to the conference theme.

During the course of the international scientific conference, the project leaders, renowned Sinologist Professor Duken Masimkhanuly and historian Professor Nabijan Mukhametkhanuly, presented their comprehensive monograph titled “The National Policy of the Chinese Communist Party in Xinjiang.”
At the end of the international scientific conference, Director D. Masimkhanuly expressed sincere gratitude to all participating scholars, speakers, and guests.
