Business trip of the Director General of the R.B. Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies D. Massimkhanuly to Japan
General Director of the R. B. Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies D. Masimkhanuly’s business trip to Japan is scheduled for ten working days from 26.10. to 08.11.2024.
The purpose of the business trip:
- Increasing the scope of relations of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after R.B. Suleymenov;
- to give fresh impetus to domestic Oriental studies;
- opening a new field for Kazakhstani orientalist scientists and young orientalist specialists;
October 27th. Taking advantage of Sunday, The Director General of our Institute D. Masimkhanuly visited several attractions, such as the Imperial Palace, the “Heavenly Tree” (a new TV tower in Tokyo, height 600 meters), the historical Buddhist temple in Tokyo.
- Masimkhanuly’s first working day in the land of the Rising Sun (October 28) began with a meeting and communication under the leadership of the head of the Scientific Research Center of the Japanese State “Oriental Archive” (東洋文庫）institution, Doctor, Professor, Mr. Hamashita Takeshi with several scientists researching the countries of Central Asia and Turkology.
The meeting took place in a particularly warm atmosphere. Also, the research center “Eastern Archive” expressed their willingness to establish a cooperative relationship with the Institute of Oriental Studies named after R.B. Suleymenov.
On the same day (October 28), after lunch, D. Masimhanuly’s trip continued at the University of Tokyo (東京大學), where a meeting was held with the scientific staff of the center under the leadership of the head of the Center for Asian Studies at the Central Library of the University of Tokyo, Professor, Ms. Kawahara Yayoi.
The library with a collection of more than 10 million books and manuscripts contains a large number of priceless historical books and manuscripts related to the past history and culture of the peoples of Central Asia.
The Director General of our Institute informed that he had arrived in order to establish mutual cooperation in order to gain access to valuable heritage and information. Professor Ms. Kawahara Yayoi enthusiastically accepted his proposal.
On October 29 (Tuesday), there was a meeting with the Director of the Waseda University (早稲田大学) Humanities Research Center, Deputy Dean for Research at the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Shoji Nishimura and held talks on establishing cooperation ties. Mr. Shoji Nishimura paid special attention to our proposal.
On October 30 (Wednesday), the visit continued to the Tokyo University of Foreign Languages (東京外国語大学).
At 14.30, D. Masimkhanuly held a meeting with the Director of the Institute for the Study of Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa, Professor Nobuaki Kondo, and discussed issues on bilateral partnerships. In the future, an agreement will be reached on the exchange of contract texts, elaboration of its contents and, finally, an official meeting and signing of documents.
On the same day, at 4:30 p.m., there was a seminar-meeting with the research staff of the Institute of Asian and African Languages and Cultures. Famous Turkologists studying the history and culture of Central Asian countries: professor Mutsumi Sugawara, associate professor Shizuo Shimada, associate professor Akira Kimura, Kazakh scientist, professor Duysinali Abilyashim, Jin Noda, etc. attended the meeting.
On the afternoon of October 31st, D. Masimkhanuly met Mr. Hiroki Sakai, professor of the Department of Transcultural Studies and the Faculty of Visual Arts at the University of Wako. Mr. Sakai is a scientist working very productively in the field of comparative research of Kazakh-Japanese folklore, including epic poems of the two peoples.
Mr. Hiroki Sakai and the above-mentioned professor of Tokyo University of Foreign Languages, Jin Noda, are scholars who know the Kazakh language very well. Both of them have literature in Kazakh, Turkish, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Uyghur, Tatar, Turkmen, Azerbaijani languages in their private library in their office. The CEO also shared with Mr. Sakai proposals for cooperation and partnership. Prospects for partnership agreements will be opened in the near future.
On the morning of November 2, D. Masimkhanuly completed a business trip to Tokyo and went to Kyoto. There he was met by Mr. Kaihe Aisingioro, a professor at Japan’s Ritsumeikan University.
Despite the fact that it was Saturday afternoon, at 14:00, a special conference was pre-organized at Kyoto University to coincide with the visit of D. Masimhanuly.
The title of the conference is “Intellectual History of Chinese Lifestyle and Culture”.
Organizer: Kyoto University Humanities Research Institute.
About 50 orientalists and sinologist-scientists from all over the world participated in the conference in offline/online format and gave presentations.
Working language: Japanese, English, Chinese.
- Masimkhanuly, in turn, made two reports in Chinese entitled “THE SCIENCE OF DOMESTIC ORIENTAL SCIENCE: BRIEF HISTORY AND MEANING AND SIGNIFICANCE” and “SCIENCE OF JAPANESE SCIENCE IN KAZAKHSTAN: BRIEF HISTORY AND CURRENT PROBLEMS”.
Mr. Kaihe Aisingioro gave a presentation on “THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WOMEN AND TAOISM IN THE MANCHURIAN SOCIETY DURING THE QING DYNASTY”.
On November 4 (Monday), in honor of the visit of our Director General D. Masimhanuly to Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, an international scientific seminar was held, organized by the Kinugasa Research Institute of Ritsumeikan University.

The meeting indicated in the program progressed by hours and minutes, and reached its conclusion.
The seminar was attended by scientists from Japan and foreign countries in the offline/online format. The discussions were interesting, with heated arguments. This international seminar was really a scientific seminar, where the reports were carefully listened to and discussed in detail.

On November 6, with the leadership of the Kinugasa Research Institute of Ritsumeikan University, had exchanged views on mutual trips and partnerships.
On November 7, D. Masimkhanuly visited museums, historical sites of the city, successfully completed a business trip, flew from Osaka Airport to Beijing in the evening and returned safely from Beijing to country.
